9 - 12th Grade Choir Auditions

Choir Audition Process

1. Singing Portion

• Vocalization
  • You will be vocalized  down on “ah”
  • You will be vocalized up on “ah”
• Pitch Matching
• Happy Birthday if more vocalization is necessary.

All incoming 9th graders do NOT need to audition, students will be placed directly into Dragon Chorus. Incoming 10-12 graders must audition if they would like to be placed in a Varsity ensemble. If you are new to HS Choir, email [email protected] to get an audition time.

2. Sight-Reading

• Students will be given an 8 measure sight-reading exercise.
  
• The tonic triad will be given.
  
• Students will have 30 seconds to practice the exercise.
  
• The tonic triad will be played at the end of the 30 second practice period.
  
• Student will then sing the exercise. 

Placement will be based on the results of the audition tabulation. Students are not allowed to change courses without Director approval. Audition results will be posted in mid-May, 2025.
